Why Path & Purpose?

We are in the midst of the fourth industrial revolution, characterized by a fusion of technologies that are blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres. Billions of people and countless machines - connected. This is bringing change , the scale, scope and complexity of which has never been seen before. The fourth revolution is evolving at an exponential rather than a linear pace, disrupting almost every industry in every country, and is already transforming entire systems of production, management, and governance. Youth face this dizzying climate of change, which traditional career planning and skills development programs are ill-equipped to address. At the same time, education programs are limited in the time they dedicate to the knowledge, behaviours and attitudes required to not just survive but thrive in the world most youth will face over the next 20 years and beyond.

At Path and Purpose, we understand that success in a fast-changing world relies on a combination of education, experience and impact, and that developing creativity is as important as analytical capability. Our program, geared toward high school and early university students, therefore places a significant emphasis on the development of the whole person - someone who is confident, positive and able to make a difference at work and in their community.

How do we encourage youth success?

Over the course of eight monthly in-person or on-line modules, we empower youth to take accountability for discovering their purpose and forging their own path to success. We start by engaging participants in an exploration of the key trends that will impact their future. We then challenge them to begin the development of a plan that considers the educational, experiential, skill and behaviour-related components that will get them where they want to go. It's a plan that they research, develop, adjust and implement - a living roadmap that they envision and own. We don't stop there, however. We also believe that knowing why you are going somewhere is as important as where you are going. Through self-assessment exercises, we encourage participants to consider their potential to create impact beyond their livelihoods, and how their education, experience and impact work together to bring purpose to their lives. We teach them to use journaling to reflect on their learning and experiences to build self-awareness and an action orientation. Most importantly, we, we support them throughout by pointing them to current resources and engage them through one-on-one coaching to keep them on track.
